The power of proximity.
Why connecting IRL is the future and much more.
Oh my, I had the best time speaking with Susan Ní Chríodáin on her brilliant Life Beyond the Numbers podcast. We talked about something I care deeply about: the power of proximity and how communication shapes our work and lives.
In the conversation, I share how my winding journey from Toronto to Galway to Nashville led me to realize that everything I do sits under one umbrella: communication. We talk about improv and my “Nice And” approach to collaboration, why “Nice But” quietly kills ideas, and how active listening is a skill even communication pros have to keep working on (just ask my wife Heather).
We also dig into networking that does not feel icky. I walk through my three Ups of Networking (show up, follow up, catch up) and explain one simple hosting move that transforms networking events from awkward to genuinely useful.
From there, we zoom out to the power of proximity itself and why, in an age of bots, deepfakes, and AI-generated everything, in-person connection is only becoming more valuable. It’s why I created the Nowhere But Up seminar in Nashville on December 16. Use NICE150 to save $150 (limited offer).
I also share a bit about my late #ADHD diagnosis, twenty years of podcasting, and why I launched my show and Substack
podcast for late-diagnosed adults with ADHD.If you are interested in better communication, braver networking, and more human connection in a digital world, I know you will enjoy our conversation with a heaping side of craic!
Let me know what you think of our conversation.
Cheers,
Dave.
